Cherish

I see you;
not aware I’m watching;
not taking your gaze away;
from the sunbathing butterfly;
clinging to your thumb.

Butterflies find you;
you don’t find them.
They sense the kind hearted;
those willing to stretch;
to reach half way;
to share in the miracle.
Butterflies find you.

I witness you;
standing by the small pond;
cradling a wounded frog;
comforting it’s pain.

Love is boundless;
soothing quietly the alone;
placing flowers on a tiny grave;
with the sadness of losing a friend;
knowing all souls are the same.

I hear you;
singing in the microphone;
spreading stories like a canopy;
painting every surface with a picture;
straight from the inside of your world.

Wonder is boundless;
opening up all the channels;
seeing far past the first screen;
pulling back the drapes and blindfolds;
as neatly folded dreams unfurl.

I know you;
across this landscape of moments;
disguising themselves as years;
since I last cradled you brand new;
since I first held you right here.

I see you;
even when you’re not here;
even when the weather;
has us under different skies;
staring at the same moon.

Butterflies find you;
relying on the trade winds;
carrying the guideposts;
showing you the way home;
telling you our story;
leaning in to whisper;
I miss you.
