Lyrics
Folk Songs In The Street
On this everyday-like morning,
as we take the witness stand,
there are echoes of discontent,
that are sounding in the land.
There are warnings – there are whispers.
There are cautions to beware.
You can hear it on the corner;
you can feel it everywhere.
There are lies and accusations
scattered all across the floor.
There are shadows of tomorrow
that are pinned on every door.
But the time is here for answers,
and a place where all can stand.
There’s a banner in the window.
There’s a call for all at hand.
We need raised arms in the court room.
We need folk songs in the street.
We need voices calling out for,
everyone who can not speak.
In this land of all 1st peoples;
in this land of immigrants;
there is room enough for all here.
We’re-the ninety nine per-cent.
For the weakest of our neighbors.
For the homeless lives undone.
For the wounded seeking refuge.
They are welcome everyone.
We need raised arms in the court rooms.
We need folk songs in the street.
We need voices calling out for,
everyone who can not speak.
Now these truths we all are holding
are the ones worth marching for.
And they write into the future.
And they’re pinned on every door.
There are warnings – there are whispers;
that there’s no time left to spare.
there are signs along the roadway
There are urges to prepare.
You can hear it on the corner.
You can feel it every-where.
Now the time is here for answers,
and a place where all can stand.
There are banners in the windows.
There are calls for all at hand.
We need raised arms in the court rooms.
We need folk songs in the streets.
And when they ask who are the patriots,
we can show them our receipts.
We need raised arms in the court rooms.
We need folk songs in the streets.
We need voices calling out for,
everyone who can not speak.
